Interview With Tim Wells - Voice Actor

Today's special guest is professional and very talented voice actor, Tim Wells! You may have seen the new (and totally awesome) video on the homepage of my website. If you haven't already, give it a quick watch before reading on (with the volume on!):

Hear that great voice narrating the video? That's Mr. Tim Wells! I met him through Fiverr.com recently when I hired him to narrate my video, and I must say that his voice really makes the entire video. So, as readers of my blog, you know what that means! I had to interview him! Without further ado, let's begin our interview!

Tell us about yourself and what you do.

I trained as an actor and have worked professionally on stage and screen. The lifestyle aspect of a traveling actor does not suit me (not least because my wife and I are parents to a severely autistic teenaged son) so I have for many years focused on studio voice acting. I have my own studio in Bath, North East Somerset, U.K. and send all manner of voiceovers wherever they are needed globally. I’m also a blues singer songwriter and lead singer of a new band called Three Bites of the Cherry based in Bristol.

What inspired you to get into voice acting?

Well, voice overs have been known to be an actor’s bread and butter for many years so I started making demos and getting involved in the industry in my twenties (I’m now in my early fifties and it’s been the best thing I ever did!)

Which projects are you the most proud of?

I have to say the most satisfying projects have been the countless gigs I’ve supplied doing David Attenborough impersonations. I so admire the man (who doesn’t?) and I’ve voiced commercials and all manner of projects as Sir David and received the best accolades for those recordings. Another project I’m very proud of is that I am the voice of the Mindharp which is an incredible easy-to-use music making app which uses the simplicity of buttons which activate beautifully crafted musical sounds which all harmonize together so that non musicians can play them in any order or combination to create a musical landscape of their choice in the moment. I supplied the voice guide for the Mindharp and the guided relaxation sessions.

Well, I'm definitely going to download that app! Tim also told me that he is super proud of the following book trailer that he narrated. So, we must include the video! Check it out…

Any words of advice for people who are just entering this industry?

Try all styles out there. Make demos, put yourself and your work out there. Have fun emulating the range of style of voice overs which are on air and on line and learn by doing.

Here are the links to his website as well as his Fiverr page, where I purchased his work. Even if you don't need voice acting services at the moment, I highly recommend taking a look anyway! He does so many spot on impersonations and fun gigs. He's very talented indeed!
